HOW TO USE AI AND SOCIAL MEDIA FOR ETHICAL COMMUNICATION

Attending the ICC (International Communication Commission) virtual meeting was an exciting and enriching experience. It was a joyful occasion that brought together participants from different parts of the world, united in purpose despite our diverse languages and backgrounds. Through the medium of translation, we were able to understand and communicate with one another, creating a sense of global unity and shared vision.

One of the most valuable aspects of this gathering was the opportunity to update our knowledge on the evolving fields of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence (AI). We were particularly struck by the session led by Sr. Laveena on Social Media. Her in-depth exploration of the topic not only deepened our understanding but also made us reflect on how we use these platforms to engage with one another.

CALLED TO BE “ CARRIERS OF LOVE ”

Social Media has undoubtedly transformed how we connect with others, but it also carries the potential to alienate us from meaningful, personal interactions. We realized that, despite the convenience and speed of digital communication, it’s essential not to lose the human touch in our relationships. The key takeaway for us was the need for balance—Social Media should enhance, not replace, authentic human connection.

Sr. Laveena’s session also encouraged us to become “agents of change” in the digital world. She emphasized that we must approach Social Media with love, respect, and responsibility, and be mindful of our digital etiquettes. As digital communicators, we are called to be "love bearers" and to contribute positively to humanity, both online and offline. This insight has been deeply inspiring, urging us to be more intentional and compassionate in our interactions, especially in the digital space.

AI: USE WITH CAUTION AND BALANCE

Another eye-opening session was on Artificial Intelligence, which challenged our previous notions of AI. We had always seen AI as a tool, but the session helped us broaden our perspective. AI, as explained, is not meant to replace human beings but to assist us in our endeavors. It is a powerful tool that can be used for the greater good, such as spreading the message of peace, justice, and God's love to our neighbors, promoting the care of our common home, and advancing the kingdom of God. However, we were reminded that AI must be used with balance and caution—it should never take the place of human interaction, but rather complement it.

The session on AI reinforced the idea that technology, when used ethically and responsibly, can be a force for good. AI is not just a tool for innovation and efficiency but also a platform that can be harnessed to communicate the Good News and foster global unity. It is a call to action for us to use our knowledge and skills in digital communication for the betterment of society and the world at large.

TO CONTRIBUTING TO THE SPREADING OF TRUTH AND GOODNESS

As we navigate the digital landscape, one of the most pressing challenges we face is the spread of misinformation, especially fake news. In the age of instant communication, fake news spreads rapidly. This was another critical learning from the ICC virtual meeting. Sr. Laveena highlighted how important it is to be discerning persons of information. We must not only verify the sources of news we receive but also question the authenticity of the information before sharing it. Fake news can be harmful and deceptive, often designed to manipulate public opinion and sow division. It is our responsibility as digital communicators to ensure that we contribute to the spread of truth and kindness, rather than becoming unwitting agents of misinformation.

This virtual gathering has been a significant moment of personal growth. It has strengthened our resolve to use social media responsibly, to listen more attentively to others, and to be more aware of the divine presence in all our interactions—whether digital or physical. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of effective communication that is rooted in love, respect, and a commitment to truth. As we continue to live in this digital world, we must embrace our role as informed and ethical communicators, using our voices and platforms to build unity, foster inclusion, and promote positive change.

CALLS FOR CHANGE

I  am  deeply grateful to God for the opportunity to be part of this gathering, and I appreciate the ICC team for their meticulous planning and seamless execution of the event. Their efforts provided us with invaluable insights. We have a renewed sense of purpose and a greater commitment to communicating with love, integrity, and a sense of responsibility.

In conclusion, the ICC virtual meeting has been a powerful reminder of our potential as communicators to bring about change. Whether through Social Media or AI, we are called to be agents of transformation, spreading the message of love and truth to all whom we encounter and interact with. Through intentional and ethical communication, we can make a positive impact in our communities and mission—both online and offline.Top of Form
