(based on the message of Sr. Simona Brambilla, Prefect of the Dicastery for Consecrated Life)
In her message for the World Day of Consecrated Life 2026, Sr. Simona Brambilla invites us to look at consecrated life as a “prophecy of presence” in today’s world. In times marked by war, division, forced migration, poverty, and deep wounds to human dignity, she reminds us that the mission of consecrated persons is, above all, to remain.
To remain not as those who settle or withdraw, but as those who choose to stay close: close to people who suffer, to wounded realities, and to places where faith is tested and hope seems fragile. Consecrated life, the message says, does not flee from these situations, but becomes a faithful, close, and supportive presence, a sign of God’s care.
Sr. Simona expresses gratitude for the quiet and daily witness of so many consecrated women and men who continue to serve, listen, care, and accompany others, even when the journey is difficult. She reminds us that simply being present is already a deeply evangelical and prophetic act: it proclaims, through life itself, that God does not abandon His people.
The message encourages consecrated persons to be artisans of peace, guardians of human dignity, and sowers of hope, living the Gospel with simplicity, courage, and trust. In closing, Sr. Simona entrusts consecrated life to the Lord, so that it may continue to be a sign of hope, closeness, and love in a world so deeply in need of communion.
