JUSTICE, PEACE AND THE INTEGRITY OF CREATION (JPIC) - CREATION SEASON 2024

PROPOSAL OF  INITIATIVES - To include the theme and symbol of the Season of Creation in activities, events and celebrations already planned during this period.

OFFICIAL PRAYER CARD - It can be downloaded from the website in several languages and can be used during community prayer and for other occasions. JPIC Commission can create a Power Point with the prayer to distribute in the communities/institutions of our PRMs.

THE WAY OF CREATION - can be celebrated in the “Cathedral of Creation” (garden, sea, mountain, river, forest…) when and if possible.

ADVOCACY ACTION ON SEPTEMBER 21: The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT) is a global initiative that strives for an international protocol that complements the Paris Agreement on climate change (2015) in addressing the still growing supply of fossil fuels.

This year we have a specific day, September 21, to focus on the ecumenical common call to action on advocacy. It will be a day of action to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT). The 79th Session of the UN General Assembly will be taking place from 10 - 24 September, 2024 and it is within this context that we Christians, as a global family, will raise our voices and show how faith communities can be powerful actors for justice and hope across the world.

METHODOLOG

•     To focus projects in our schools (for example: painting competitions, poetry writing, short skits, etc.) and also with social projects, raising awareness and training how to care for the planet; also plan something practical according to each reality and hold a public demonstration on September 21^st. The work in our institutions must involve not only those who are served, but their families and the community.
•     To encourage reflection on the Season of Creation and creation of handcrafts with children and adolescents. 
•     Join the diocesan commission of ecology and conduct different programs in the parishes.

 EXAMPLE HOW TO ORGANIZE THE WEEKS OF THE SEASON OF CREATION 

First week from September 1^st 

• Prayer service in community. 
• Highlight the theme of season of creation during Sunday mass in the church. 
• Bible Quiz connected with creation for catechism students.

Second week from September 8^th

• Sowing seeds of various fruits, vegetables, grains etc.
• Share the products with the poor at the time of harvest.

Third week from September 15^th

• Taking care of animals, birds, pets etc.
• Clay model competition in the schools.
• Encourage children, parents, associates to love and take care of the animals.

Fourth week from September 22^nd

• Planting trees
• Organize creation walk or pilgrimage and plant trees at the pilgrimage place if possible.

Fifth week from September 29^th

• Various competitions on various topics like conservation of natural resources, need to protect the planet, practical steps to take care of the environment.
•  Debate, Elocution, Storytelling, etc.

October 4^th

Conclusion of the Season of Creation with prayer service, evaluation and sharing a meal with associates, teachers, friends, co-workers, parishioners, etc. (Choose the possible group).
