EXTENDED COUNCIL-A DAY FULL OF LIFE

Imagem Destaque

21/Sep. Extended Council 2024

The early morning sun bathed the low-lying “Lago Nemi” in bright sunlight.

Our day began with prayer in same language groups: “Walking together” in unity to form one body in Christ. We were inspired by St Paul in the letter to the Ephesians, where he invites us to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace: one body and one spirit… and to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received … The sharing united us on our common journey here in Nemi and we shared the gift each one of us has received.

With the CSJ-CHAMBERY-WORLDNEWS the work of the morning began in the Aula Magna – the assembly hall. The news, that one of the coffee machines in the house already had broken down after having been used in a wrong way, triggered a burst of laughter, and the machine was ready for use again in the afternoon.

WE WERE DEEPLY TOUCHED

The assembly then immersed itself into the life of the congregation – starting by listening to the report of the commission for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), which is an essential part of the life of our congregation and our charism of unity. Despite of lack of fulltime staff, and limited possibilities of meetings, the commission has been able to offer valuable material to the congregation via the contact persons in the respective PRMs.

Six provinces/regions were then invited to present how they work with the calls of the General Chapter 2021. The majority (4) had chosen to implement the call to interculturality into the province/region. One province and one region are working on the call of a “community immersed in the spirit”. We were deeply touched by the abundance of life that came to us in these presentations.

It is very encouraging to experience, that sisters (from different cultures) are empowered to live in deeper relationships and that joy, love, dialog and forgiveness are part of community life.

“MISSION AND SYNODALITY”.

Also, the protection of our common home, the earth, is of utmost importance for the life in PRMs.

The afternoon began with a photo session outside the house, where the individual leadership teams were “immortalized”. The sunny weather was the right setting for such an activity.

A presenter had been invited for the afternoon session: Fr. Adelson Araújo dos Santos SJ from Brazil, who is teaching at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. The topic was “Mission and Synodality”. Fr. Adelson developed an understanding of synodality, which has three keywords: encounter-listen-discern. He stated that synodality, therefore, is a path or method to ensure that we discern our mission under the light of the Spirit, with greater participation and communion among all and with greater fruit in the mission. This presentation was highly appreciated.

Before supper we all met in the chapel of the Divine Word for evening prayer, which our sisters from Brazil had prepared. We all received a small lantern, which we in a procession carried into the
chapel.

A day filled with life – a gift from God to the world.
