EXTENDED COUNCIL 2024 - A JOURNEY IN SYNODAL SPIRIT

‘The earth is our heritage, freedom is our birthright, and our call is to be prophets of our time.’ On this Synodal Day, we Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry felt the need to be touched by God's love in order to embrace our prophetic role. 

SHARING OF THE HEART

The Synodal Conversation led by the General Council became a profound moment of sharing, where life and heartfelt emotions were openly exchanged. As the participants listened to one another, we witnessed a powerful synergy of trust and connection. Their courage and credibility shone through as they vulnerably shared their challenges, hopes, and dreams.

Sr. Dolores spoke about being workers for the Kingdom of God, and not Master Builders. This realization guided us in our mission and helped us understand that our true calling is to serve.

DARE TO BREAK THROUGH ALL COMFORT ZONES

One of the challenges we face in our mission is stepping out of our comfort zones to respond to the needs of the mission beyond our borders, ministries, and country. This is an urgent priority that requires immediate attention. Despite these challenges, there is great hope within the group, and we are committed to responding generously, working together as one body within the congregation.

The synodal seeds that we will carry into our mission symbolize deep, active, and compassionate listening, discernment, walking together to reach further, and always remaining grateful. Sr. Dolores expressed her admiration for the profound sharing within each group and noted how every member grew in confidence and credibility through the experience.

GATHERING OF GENERATIONS

After lunch, we gathered for a group photo, and the atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy. Everyone wore their best smiles, radiating a sense of empowerment. Following this, the sisters posed proudly in their respective age groups. Each group contributed its unique energy and spirit to the occasion:

The Transforming Grace Group (ages 70 and above)

The Wisdom Group (ages 60 to 70)

The Generative Group (ages 50 to 60)

The Fiery Group (ages 40 to 50)

CONNECTING GLOBALLY

The ICC helped us connect with the world by presenting its news to the Extended Council, enriching us with insights into current global realities. The news also included light-hearted segments highlighting some memorable and unforgettable moments from the Extended Council.

As we approached the end of the meeting, we expressed our gratitude to each member, encouraging them to dare to step out of their comfort zones and to dream of a better future for our Congregation, united as one body and one spirit.
