"FOREST FIRES CONSUME THE AMAZON"
The situation of forest fires in Latin America is a climate emergency that has become an environmental catastrophe, affecting the ecosystem and the health of the population.
In Bolivia, the most affected departments are Santa Cruz, Pando and Beni. On September 8, 2024, with supreme decree N°. 5219, the country declared a national emergency due to forest fires that affect the environment, people's health, biodiversity, and the activities of the population.
As Sisters of St. Joseph we have joined the various institutions, making a call to raise awareness of the ecological disaster that is causing respiratory diseases, we have carried out campaigns to help the indigenous communities that have lost their harvest, people who have lost their homes, we are collaborating in various ways, collecting medicines and food, we also join our local church by carrying out the pilgrimages of supplications, asking God for forgiveness for the neglect of the Common Home, and asking that a rain bless our fields.
