GENERAL CHAPTER IN NEMI - DAY 4 11/27

WHAT FEELINGS ARE EMERGING FROM THIS GENERAL CHAPTER?

On Saturday, we reviewed the first three intense days of the General Chapter focusing on the question: what are sentiments/feelings emerging from the Chapter?

We continued with listening the reports of the province of Brazil, the region of Bolivia, the mission in Tanzania, the congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Handan (China) whose general council continues to meet regularly with our general council to grow in leadership and formation for religious life. This process of help continues between our congregation and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Handan as it was decided in the Extended Council of 2020.

New life and hope emerge from the mission along with challenges. Other congregations have joined hands with our Congregation in order to support the mission in Bolivia. Province of Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery in brazil have extended their hands to help Sisters of St. Joseph of Haiti for the formation of young women for consecrated Religious Life.

WHAT PATH DO WE LIKE TO TAKE?

The General Chapter is a process of profound mutual listening as a "WE" in order to understand where we need to grow as the congregation and where we need to invest our energies to continue our presence in the future. It is important to know how we are connected to the realities in which we live and what are the real motivations that justify our presence in that particular place.

Some of the questions which arise makes our reflection open: what are the calls that we are called to assume as a congregation in the coming years? Which path do we want to take?

Another topic addressed was the missionary presence in Savoie. According to the recommendation, the leaders of France and Europe could present to the General Council a possible request for professed sisters to join the province of France in order to support the missionary presence.

    THE DISCERNMENT PROCESS CONTINUES

The Chapter Assembly voted for Editing committee, composed three members namely: Sr Dolores (USA), Sr Lilly (India) and Sr Katia (Brazil). They will edit the final document of the General Chapter 2021 and any other document that needs to be edited and/or reformulated.

In the afternoon, the mixed language groups worked on the theme of associates and collaboration with the laity and on the priorities which the congregation will take up next coming years. Intercultural lifestyle, borders and protection of creation (women, refugees, focus on "Laudato si"), developing and deepening our charism and spirituality in this post-pandemic world, community as a laboratory of the Spirit, are some of the calls that are emerging. But the discernment process continues.
