    Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic: St. Joseph Convent- Curitiba / Brazil. Sharing 12

    St. Joseph Convent - Curitiba / PR

    We celebrated our last Mass before Lockdown on March 19th. It was a festive mass, with the entrance of Leticia Andrade da Silva and Lurde Aparecida de Souza in Postulancy and our renewal of Vows. Since then, we are like most Catholics in the world participating in mass on TV. Intensifying the personal and community prayer. We pray the way of the cross outdoors asking God to have mercy on the victims of Covid-19 and for the end of this pandemic.

    A number of precautions were taken by the administration because we are a large group of sisters organized in three communities. In addition, a group of  sisters on transit formed a  community because they were unable to return to the communities due to quarantine.

    The first step taken was an enlightening lecture on the prevention and care we need, given by Dr. José Mario Tupiná Machado, a geriatric doctor who attends our home. Sisters, collaborators and employees participated in the lecture. In our house, many posters were distributed reinforcing basic preventive measures according to guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

    When employees arrived, they were asked to: bathe, check their temperature and change their clothes. The patios at the entrance to the house and the kitchen were also cleaned. We continue to maintain tranquillity and, above all, trust in God who governs all peoples.

    We propose, God disposes!

    We are experiencing a very difficult time. We were surprised by this pandemic because we were passing through the Convent St. Joseph in Curitiba / PR and given the delicate situation, the Provincial Council asked us to organize ourselves, forming a small community on a provisional basis. Sisters of Three nucleus are part of this experience. Cecilia Inês; (Holy Trinity) and Santissima Trindade and Good Shepherd (Bom Pastor);

    We accept the will of God to live this crossing that was necessary, in a time of quarantine because of the Coronavirus. We also took advantage of the “quarantine” time in preparation for Easter, favourable time to deepen our experience of faith and experience of community life,  experience of more unity between us in this moment of passage. We are under the control of a Virus that was able to modify, among other things, our schedules and cancel our trips.

    In this time of seclusion, we learn from Jesus, in the desert, to strengthen ourselves spiritually, doing the Father\´s will, hoping that we will soon be in our communities. The time is for unity in crossing and hope.
