Rebuilding life projects with refugees and immigrants

Sister Mary Sizilo has been associated, for some years, with programs that help and benefit refugees and immigrants who come to Brazil. The program called Rebuilding Life Projects with Refugees and Immigrants was developed at the San José Education Center, in São Paulo, and maintains courses on food and sweets preparation, and the Brazilian Portuguese language. This year, 35 people have received certificates in the courses for Brazilian food and sweets preparation.

In the Portuguese language course, 40 people are seeking to learn the language. For a better result in the learning process, students are divided into two classes.

Refugees and immigrants, participants in the courses, are from these countries:  Angola, Bolivia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, the Republic of the Congo, Guinea Bissau, Venezuela, Suriname, Nigeria, Peru, Namibia, Morocco, and Haiti.

The program relies on the valuable financial collaboration of the mission fund of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry. Without this assistance, it would be difficult to maintain the school and the courses offered.
