    Easter 2021

    Dear Sisters, Associates and Friends,

On Holy Saturday, we are reminded of the history of our salvation, from the moment God said, “Let there be Light”, to the Resurrected Jesus missioning Mary Magdalene to, “Go and announce that I am alive…” John 20:17 and still later, Jesus appearing and saying, “Peace be with you!” John 20:19

"Go and announce  that  I am alive"
    John 20:17

This year’s Easter comes after we, with millions of others, have in the past thirteen months of this global pandemic lived again, what seemed like the struggles and challenges of our Old Testament ancestors. We also witnessed the generosity and solidarity of others reaching out to those most in need. We sensed our own missioning to announce that through it all the Resurrected Jesus was accompanying us, keeping our hope alive.

Our Easter world today looks and is so different from previous Easters. Yet, the call to be light and hope for others and to offer peace through our presence is ever stronger. A modern day youth poet laureate, Amanda Gorman, also feels called, like Mary Magdalene and all of us, to announce the presence of light. She says, “The new dawn blooms as we free it. For there is always light if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.” (The Hill We Climb, Presidential Inauguration USA 2021)

Our wish for all of you this Easter, is that we continue to be open to the grace to be brave enough to live the light and hope that Jesus’ Resurrection offers us!

    Happy Easter. Alleluia!
    With deep gratitude and love,

    S. Sally Hodgdon
