DISCERNMENT- A WAY OF LIFE - the day's liturgy and prayers were centered around this very theme. In her input on discernment, Sr. Flavia mentioned that our God is a 'labouring' God...... constantly working within and outside us. Discernment helps us to listen to God's voice which guides and directs our interior movements and feelings to make choices, decisions. Sr. Flavia guided the members in the process of discernment through 6 steps, namely.....
- Notice and become aware of the inner movements at three levels, namely: Mind level, Emotional level, and Will level.
- Pay attention to the directions in which the Spirit moves.
- Identify the source; good or evil....
- Follow it. If it is good and leads us to God and therefore we accept it.
- Reject it. This comprises of power, position, pride. We reject the evil.
- Resist it.....through a life of prayer and fasting, breaking the Word of God.
She strictly stressed once again, on the need for silence, prayer and the practice of active listening and intentional speaking. This was followed with a discussion on the mandate and number of councillors, along with voting procedures on the same, till a two- thirds majority emerged.
The nominees for Provincial superior was displayed; the members were guided into further discernment through adoration, prayer and silence. In the meanwhile Sr. Sally met the nominees, after which they addressed the Chapter members. The process of election began in a prayerful atmosphere.
........... the year now drew to a close with the accompaniment of an hour of thanksgiving and the Eucharistic celebration, wherein the process of discernment, prayer and silence was encouraged and preserved.
