Ecumenical Prayer Walk in Trinity Church, Oslo
JOURNEYING IN DIGNITY AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING - 8th February 2023
IX International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking 2023
Journeying in dignity against human trafficking, was the theme for the IX International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking. "Dignity and freedom are a path, a slow and long-term journey that accompanies the person once he or she emerges from the violence of human trafficking."
At the prayer walk in the Trinity Church in Oslo, Norway, four different church congregations were walking together: from the Anglican Church, the Catholic Church, the Swedish Church and the Church of Norway. The prayer was edited and translated from the Pope Francis prayer vigil for 8th February, and chants from Taizé were sung between the different prayer stations.
OPPORTUNITY TO WALK TOGETHER
More and more people are joining forces around February 8th on St. Bakhita Day to pray and to raise awareness on this ‘open wound on the body of Christ, on the body of all humanity’ (Pope Francis). St Bakhita had herself been trafficked as a child.
The prayer walk offers an opportunity to walk together, across religious traditions and cultures, to pray for dignity and freedom for all people, and a greater awareness of the suffering from human trafficking in our common world.
