The 3rd online Chapter Session of the CSJ Province in Brazil took place on October 8, 2022. All the sisters of different communities, Lay Associate representatives, and collaborators participated in the Session. Sr. Márian Ambrosio, DP, Sr. Maria Cristina Gavazzi, CSJ (General Councilor), and Sr. Griselda Martínez Morales of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon, were our resource persons. They dealt with the appeals of the General Chapter namely: 1. Communities immersed in the Spirit; 2. Intercultural life today; 3. Protection of all Creation – our common home.

Sr. Katia R. Sassi, Provincial Superior, warmly welcomed all for this session and reminded us of the significant dates in the month of October for us, the Sisters of St. Joseph: on October 2nd, 1858 the first Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambéry arrived in Brazil. On October 6th, we celebrate the 412th anniversary of the birth of our founder Father Jean Pierre Médaille, SJ. On October 15th, the 372 years of official recognition as the Congregation. Sr. Katia challenged each one of us with the triple question before the different themes were dealt with, namely: -  What does God want from us, CSJ, today? – What choices do we need to make? – How are we going to walk together at this time? She wished us all the best for the session.

Sr. Arzila Pertile, Provincial Councilor, coordinated the morning session. She made the panel presentation of three resource persons. Sr. Márian began her talk by asking us to re-read the three texts which were dealt on during the General Chapter: 1st text by Sr. Niclas Spezzati (Communities, Laboratory of the Spirit...); 2nd text by Márian (Characteristics of the first communities); 3rd text by Marian (Concept of Religious Life... theological space). She spoke on the theme of the Experience of Jesus' community living on earth. She emphasized this by giving the different situations of the life of Jesus in Bethany. Sr. Maria Cristina stressed that intercultural life is a ‘decision of the heart’. It is the result of a process of personal and community conversion. Sr. Griselda spoke on the Protection of all Creation. Each of us should defend life and the planet in our daily life. She challenged us to question our personal use of material goods and the wasting.

After the break, Sr. Marlete coordinated the questions which were asked in the chat. Each resource person, in addition to clarifying the questions, made their final remarks.

In the afternoon, Sr. Maria da Conceição Rocha Coelho, Provincial Councilor, coordinated the presentation of the Reports of the Team and Service Groups of the Province: Administration and Finance Team; Communication Group; JPIC Group. Lay Associate Group and Lay people group.  Missionary Cooperation Group said that we witness missionary life by following the Charism of the Sisters. They believe that they can strengthen the spirituality of the Sisters, by being with the Sisters in the mission. They are cooperators in the Province taking care of the mission and walking side by side with the Sisters.

We conclude the session with clarifications and thanks. Sr. Katia, on behalf of the Council, thanked the 18 laypeople and collaborators, for their presence for our 3rd online session.

‘Get out, Lazarus! Get out, laymen and laywomen! Let's build a world of unity and peace!”

There was a sending-off ceremony for the laypeople who will not participate in January 2023 in-person session in Curitiba PR.
