    08.03.2022 | MISSION IN PARÁ - BRAZIL

MISSION SANTA MARIA / PARÁ - BRAZIL -  MAKING PUXIRUM, BUILDING THE UNIT.

From July 10 to 26, 2022, the first initiative of local missionary experience was organized by the pastoral missionary team, in the Santa Maria Mãe de Deus pastoral area, a mission area belonging to the Archdiocese of Santarém / PA. Our Srs. Ana Clara, Regina Célia and Talita and Frs. Raphael and Givanilson were part of the team. About 25 missionaries from six states of Brazil were welcomed, so that they could taste the experience of faith in this portion of the Pará Amazon.

The Santa Maria Mãe de Deus Pastoral Area is located in the rural area of the city of Prainha, and corresponds to a set of forty-nine communities, divided into three mini areas with their challenges in terms of territorial, geographic and demographic dimensions. The Missionary Experience was aimed at expanding the presence of the Church in Brazil, which is so diverse, but one in its apostolate. That is why the call to come and do “puxirum” (indigenous word meaning collective effort) is an invitation to build together and bring about communion.

    SHARED GIFTS

The mission consisted of staying with people and visiting families, praying, sharing life, faith, food and celebrating together with the people of God. Among the missionaries we had the presence of two more priests who lived this experience with us. Free workshops were also offered to the communities with medical and psychological care, games for children, arts of flower making, blood pressure and glucose measurement, manicure, hairdressing, listening and confession. Missionaries rendered these services to people.

There were more than three hundred haircuts, in addition to a countless number of children who participated in storytelling workshops. About 30 people received medical and psychological care, another 50 underwent other health care and around 30 had their hands beautified by manicures and ten people learned the art of folding and producing flowers with pieces of paper.

THE SEED OF THE PARAENSE AMAZON

In addition to these services, each and every one of us and our communities have seeds of our Missionary experience of Pará Amazon in our heart. We ask for the grace of the Lord so that He will continue to care for every seed so that it can germinate and bear fruit wherever it is.
