GENERAL COUNCIL MESSAGE
Rome, March 19, 2022
An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream . . .
When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him Matthew 1:20, 22.
Joseph was a dreamer, but also a doer. He acted on his dreams, trusting that the angel of the Lord who spoke to him in his dreams would continue to be with him and guide him. His dreams were not easy. He was instructed to take pregnant Mary as his wife. In another dream, an angel of the Lord told him to take Mary, the baby Jesus, and flee to Egypt, a dangerous journey to an unknown country. And yet a third and fourth dream, calling him to return from Egypt to Israel, not to Judea, but to Galilee, to the small town of Nazareth, where he would care for his family.
What dreams do we have? For ourselves? Our communities? Our Congregation? Our world?
How do we act on these dreams? How do we become realizers of our dreams?
May the celebration of the Feast of our Patron Saint encourage us to be dreamers and doers!
With love,
