    01.26.2022 | MISSIONARIES IN BOLIVIA - SHARING 4

IRMÃ JOILMA MAURINA DE JESUS MATOS

THE HAND OF GOD LEADS ME

In a prayerful attitude, I would like to speak about lived and learned experiences of my mission. I feel that this year 2021 was a year of many trials and graces in my life. I arrived in Bolivia, in the midst of pandemic. Therefore, I had to stay at home. I felt very distressed to see so many family members suffering due to the deaths of their loved ones.

Another difficulty I faced was of language. I didn’t know Spanish or Castilian. There is a huge difference between Spanish and Castilian. But, I perceived the hand of God leading me. I am very grateful for the patience and acceptance of our Sisters especially the community of San Ramon, where I lived this year, during my time of learning the language and the situation.

First of all, Sisters helped me to learn the language and understand the culture of the people of Bene region, which is on the border of the Amazon. As in so many countries, the situation here is not easy. Due to the pandemic, many people are unemployed and hungry, and at the same time they are settled in their material and spiritual lives.

SEEING THE WORLD THROUGH THE EYES OF FAITH

I feel very sad to see the situation here in our ‘house of meal’ such as abandonment of elderly and children, hunger, violence and abuse. Many young people are attracted to the drugs and trafficking.  When I see that there are people who don’t have a decent home, food, medicine and lack basic things necessary for life, it makes me think about my life and helps me not to complain about my situation.

I am grateful to God, Sisters and the San Ramón community for this beautiful experience. I have learned many things but above all to see the world with the eyes of faith, hope and love.

I end with the words from the Gospel of St. John 6:68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
