As the Extended council was nearing its conclusion time was given to proposing a theme and topics for the 2021 General Chapter. Friday morning was dedicated to this work. It began with the sisters reflecting on the priorities they had previously named and them taking their insights to mixed language groups. Each group came up with one theme for the Chapter which it wrote on large sheets of paper to be posted in the hall. When the sisters returned to the assembly each group read and explained their theme before each one was invited to indicate her preference with a colored post-it. This information as well as the suggested topics will be part of the material used in the Chapter planning.
At the end of the morning S. Sally spoke of the qualities needed for delegates to the Chapter. Among the qualities she mentioned were openness to other cultures, willingness to do the preparatory work and ability to articulate not only their own ideas but also the vision of the province or region. The general council is planning to use ZOOM or a similar platform to connect delegates from different countries before the chapter.
The afternoon was dedicated to personal reflection on the statement: “As a leader within our congregation, called to Incarnate Love with Joy, I commit myself to . . . “ After time for reflection and prayer each one is invited to write her personal commitment. A similar process will take place on Saturday morning for the provincial and regional teams.
