    A morning with the Pope

Each week on Wednesday, there is an audience with the pope and this week we were among the crowd gathered in the Audience Hall to see and hear Pope Francis. Although the audience began at 9:30 am, we were on the bus at 6:45 so we might get good places. The sisters were all there on time, excited to have this opportunity to see Pope Francis in person. His words were powerful, reminding all there of the importance of hospitality both for our sisters and brothers of other religions during this week of Christian Unity and for the many migrants on our shores. If you would like to share our experience, through a video of the audience and hear the words of the pope you can do that at: Pope Francis - General Audience 2020-01-22

The Sisters of St. Joseph were publically recognized during the audience and as a group we stood up to be more visible. At the suggestion of some of our sisters from Latin America, on the night before the audience we all signed a letter of support to the pope. The letter and a statue of St. Joseph on the Journey was given to the pope when we were there. Some time was left for shopping or simply enjoying the sunny day in St. Peter’s Square before we returned to Monte Cucco.

The afternoon was dedicated to the report of the various international commissions. The JPIC report was given by Nilva Dal Bello joining us from Brazil via Zoom and Linda Pepe in the hall. Navya Neelam, Eliana dos Santos and Barbara Bozak, presenting the ICC, encouraged the sisters to send articles and information for publication in the CSJournal and on the website. Cristina Gavazzi closed the afternoon with her report on the Commission on Interculturality.
