    From Re-reading to Finances

Friday morning was a time for the participants of the Extended Council to spend time in silence,  reflecting on two questions:  (1)  At this point in our session, do you feel the Spirit is leading us?  (2)  Do you sense any paralysis that is blocking us?  After three hours of personal reflection, the group broke into small groups to gather the wisdom of the morning’s reflection. Each group was asked to respond to several questions :  What touched you in what you heard during the first five days?  At this point, do you see the Spirit guiding us?  What is paralyzing us and hindering us to move forward? The responses will be gathered and used later in the meeting.

After lunch, the topic addressed was finances.  At the beginning of the afternoon session, an accountant from Ernst and Young (an international consulting and advisory services company) joined us by ZOOM to explain several things including the details of Form 9, which is used to report a province’s finances to the general council, and the congregation’s financial policy manual.  This was followed by some information from the 2019 Finance Commission Meeting in Rome, presented by S. Marianne Bode and S. Donna Hoffman.  S. Sally’s explanation of the importance of investing in ethically responsible companies, at the provincial as well as the congregational level, was well received and led to some interesting discussion.

The afternoon continued with S. Jona giving some history, as well as the actual situation, of the ongoing missionary presence in France.   Then information was given about the free day on Sunday so all will be ready to enjoy a day under the Roman sun.
