GENERAL CHAPTER IN NEMI - 12/05

ELECTION OF THE NEW GENERAL SUPERIOR

Today we entered into the second week of Advent, and the liturgy led by our Sisters from Pakistan Region helped us delve deeper into the spirit of the season. After this the delegates gathered in the Chapter Hall for the sacred task of electing the new General Superior.

Joy, greetings and felicitations echoed from the hall as Sr. Dolores Lahr from the United States Province was elected as the new General Superior of the Congregation.

    SHARING BY SR. GEMMA VALERO

Every time we are about to live a new experience, I think it is logical to feel a range of  emotions: from enthusiasm/curiosity to fear/concern. Although I have participated in several General Chapters in the small congregation of Pinerolo, finding myself in a Chapter Assembly with dozens of sisters from the four continents initially brought me joy mixed with trepidation.

It was certainly a gift, an event that opened my eyes and heart to the world, making me grow in awareness of being "one" Congregation, large and varied in its aspects, especially multicultural and linguistic, but united by the same charism of communion, a charism to be shared more and more with associates and the laity of the Little Design.

"I FELT FULLY "INSIDE" THE CHAPTER"

Even though I am an "auditor", I felt fully "inside" the Chapter, on a journey of research, discernment and sharing, welcomed in the work groups as well as in the prayer groups. With great gratitude, I experienced the opportunity to deepen the theme of interculturality, to approach different realities of fraternal life and mission, to get to know and be closer to consecrated women, disciples of Jesus, who, in spite of their frailties, reveal courage in their dreams of hope and advocacy, and who seek to listen to the Holy Spirit who "stands in our midst", to "evaluate what is essential", and "bend down to touch the wounds of others," as Sister Sally recalled in her opening address.
