OUR GENERAL CHAPTER IS ABOUT TO BEGIN
We are in Nemi where the 30th General Chapter of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery is about to begin. Nemi is famous for growing strawberries. Our first days in Nemi were full of enjoying the beautiful view of Lake Nemi, the artistic panorama of the beautiful forests, plants and flowers etc.
The last of delegates and translators arrived on the 23rd. We are 60 of us for this General Chapter. We represent 12 countries - India, Brazil, Bolivia, Pakistan, United States, Ireland, Tanzania, Norway, Denmark, China, France and our host country Italy. On our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the Sisters and the Staff of Ad Gentes center run by the Divine Word Fathers.
EAGERLY AWAITING THE BEGINNING
Sr. Sally and the general councillors are making us feel their affectionate presence by greeting and welcoming each of the participants, delegates, auditors and work team.
On 23rd November 21, the delegates from other countries outside Europe were given Sars Cov2 antigen test (covid19). After a few minutes of waiting the result was given and we celebrated being Covid negative.
We witnessed meticulous preparation for everything. Everyone is looking forward to the beginning of the chapter. As part of the preparation, some Sisters were invited for the rehearsal of the opening Ritual. This will help everyone to be united.
AN INVITATION TO LIVE THIS SACRED TIME INTENSELY
In the afternoon, all the participants gathered in the main hall of the Ad Gentes center to practice the use of translation equipment and various orientations. The hall has a modern system of equipment that facilitates translation and the active and effective participation each Sister. Sr. Sally met the Sisters who are participating for the first time in the General Chapter and gave guidelines for the event.
The General Chapter is a historical event of great importance for the animation of the life and mission of the Congregation. Sr. Sally, the Superior General concluded her guidelines by inviting each one to live intensely this time of grace and this sacred time for the Congregation.
