    CHAPTER JOURNEY / 09-10

FORMATION FOR PRESENTATION, REFLECTION AND STUDY

We waited with excitement and immense joy for the fourth session of the General Chapter journey to commence via zoom.  The 10th of September 2021 presented before us a very crucial theme: ‘Formation for presentation, reflection and study.’  Sr. Sally welcomed all and said we were meeting one another after two weeks.

It was followed by a very meaningful prayer session guided by the delegates from Brazil on the theme of Formation. “The two of Emmaus return together to Jerusalem and above all join the apostolic community which, by the power of the Spirit, becomes wholly missionary” (Pope Francis).

“We need to encourage and accompany processes, without imposing our own road maps. For those processes have to do with persons who remain always unique and free” (Christus Vivit, n.297).

FORMATION: The LIGHT WE RADIATE SERVES TO POINT THE WAY TO NEW GENERATIONS

Sr. Marian Ambrosio was an effective presenter on formation with her challenging thoughts.  This was my first thought: the LIGHT WE RADIATE shows the right path to new generations.  The lamps that I lit in my life, now light other lamps. If everything depends on God, then what is our role in the process of animation, discernment and vocational accompaniment? Every seven years, a pine tree stops growing in size, to strengthen its girth and nodes. What about my own gorwth process? None of us are masters. The Formator is a mystagogue. A mystagogue is a person who takes another person who wishes to follow Jesus by the hand and leads him/her to the feet of Jesus, the Master.

MYSTAGOGUE INTRODUCES US TO THE MYSTERIES OF GOD

A mystagogue introduces him/her to the mysteries of God, the vocation and life. We call this the experience of God, the God who attracts and captivates, awakens in us the deep desire to follow his Son Jesus. Daily life is an excellent “training place” for us.

Sr. Philo continued the presentation on Initial formation from 2016 – 2021. Our Congregation is blessed with many young women in Formation. It is a huge grace for us. Though all P/R/M do not have initial formation, living as ONE BODY as we do all women in initial Formation are important to all of us in our congregation.

Sr. Marlette – Brazil, Sr.Annette - Norway, Sr.Shubha - India, Sr. Saiqua - Pakistan and Sr. Malathi – Tanzania made PowerPoint presentations. They made us understand the way the formation process is carried out in their own countries based on the formation manual. In the plenary, the delegates deeply appreciated all those who worked tirelessly for the past two years to bring out the formation manual.

EVALUATION OF 2015 GENERAL CHAPTER DIRECTION ON FORMATION

Sr. Mariaelena helped us to recall some of the points which the Provinces, Regions and Missions have mentioned in evaluating 2015 General Chapter direction on Formation.  After the presentation, sisters were sent to Mixed Language Groups to discuss about concrete suggestions to better journey with the young members of our Congregation. There was deep and concrete sharing on the questions given. It is a general feeling that still exist, ‘formation’ is always a big question mark in all Religious Congregations.

At the conclusion Sr. Sally thanked Sisters of Brazil  for their insightful prayer service, the formators who shared their experiences from various countries, Sr.Marian Ambrosio for her discerning inputs and then all the delegates as well as members who are part of the General Chapter who were present at the meeting.
