    CHAPTER JOURNEY / 07-09

The second session of the 2021 Journey of General Chapter opened on the 9th of July.  Delegates from around the world logged into Zoom to begin a conversation on Interculturality.

Following a few words of welcome by Sister Sally, the opening prayer was offered by the delegates from the Province of United States and the theme was Interculturality. Delegates were invited to reflect on this theme through scripture, prayer and song. The prayer closed with a blessing: “May the God who created a world of diversity and vibrancy go with us as we embrace life in all its fullness. May the Son who teaches us to care for strangers and foreigners go with us as we try to be good neighbors in our communities.  And may the Spirit who breaks down our barriers and celebrates community, go with us as we find the courage to create a place of welcome for all.” – by Clare McBeath & Tim Presswood.

LET UNITY BE BORN IN US

Sister Marian Ambrosio, one of the two facilitators of the Chapter, then led the delegates in a reflection on the Chapter logo - “Community Immersed in the Spirit Connected with the World” - and its vibrant colors.  What meaning do the colors have for us? What about the figures in the center of the logo?  To what does it calls us? “Let unity be born in us.”

INTERCULTRUAL LIVING: A PERSONAL AND COMMUNAL CONVERSION

Sister Adriana Milmanda, SSpS was the presenter for this session and challenged the delegates to come to a deeper understanding of Interculturality, a ‘decision of the heart.’ Adriana outlined what is meant by Culture, Multiculturality, and Transcultural experiences leading up to what Intercultural living is: a choice, a vocation, a gift of grace, a personal and communal conversion.  This was followed by work in mixed language groups on our challenges and hopes as they relate to Interculturality.  Reports from the small work groups were evidence of the deep reflection and sharing among delegates.  We will continue tomorrow with some reflection on today’s work and what direction we might envision.
