Seminar on Human Trafficking

Our Congregation has been concerned with the reality of human trafficking for many years and is taking many concrete actions in this regard, including a “Statement as a Congregational Body.”  The problem continues to grow and requires ongoing action.

Today, human trafficking is the third most lucrative illegal activity in the world, surpassed only by trafficking in arms and drugs.

In various places in Brazil, including the State of Pará, a seminar bringing together public and civil authorities, victims of trafficking, leaders of church and society took place June 24 to 26, in order to study the question and seek ways to confront the problem and participate in the elaboration of a National and State Plan to combat this criminal activity.

The north of Brazil is one of the most likely places from which persons are taken and trafficked for sex, human organs, slave labor and forced marriage.

Our community continues to be attentive to the problem by taking part in a program called “Protection for Victims and Witnesses,” (PROVITA) through welcoming, sheltering and accompanying victims of this inhuman reality.
