Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic Tanmaya India and Pakistan Sharing 21

    We care …

    A tiny virus calle
d Corona has disturbed human life. It has gripped the whole world without discriminating any religion, caste, age, gender, and places. Along with social life, it has brought down the worlds economy. At the same time, it has offered space for the earth to get purified from various pollution.

In this situation, We, the Sisters of St. Joseph at Ashta, (Tanmaya Province) through Nav Ankur Manav Kalyan Sanstha responding to the needs of people in and around Ashta. So far, we have provided care packages to 400 families. Most of them are migrant shepherds from Rajasthan, rag pickers, daily wage labourers and slum dwellers. Side by side, we provide awareness on the seriousness of COVID – 19, and the methods to prevent it. We also cooperate with various government officials in order to reach out more people.

Initially, we found it hard to obtain permission from the government authorities. But this did not dampen our spirit. We went ahead and distributed food packages, as they had nothing to eat due to lockdown. We found the police department supportive. They often accompanied us and helped us while we distributed food packages. Slowly, the local village heads and ward members started supporting and helping us in this noble task.

Sisters Promila and Rachana, Nav Ankur’s staff, and the local volunteers under the guidance of Sr. Harshita continue to do this work with commitment and generosity.

We know this is not an easy task. We trust our Risen Lord and draw courage and strength from Him. We depend on the prayers and support of our community members who constantly sit before the Lord, praying for our safety and God’s mercy to end this pandemic.
