Sisters of St. Joseph facing the coronavirus pandemic: Nucleus Caminho Novo / Caxias do Sul Sharing 16

In quarantine - Cidade Nova Community

Our community is aware of the need to take care of one self and others according to the rules of health agencies. In communion and solidarity with the whole congregation, we give our contribution to overcome this pandemic.

Our community has longer period of personal and community prayers. Moses prayed for people, on the mountain, with open arms, while the battle against the enemies continued. Right now, prayer is our great contribution to humanity which is facing Covid 19 pandemic. We try to encourage people to keep their hope alive, trusting in the God of life. We welcomed Sr. Adilina Beneti- a new member of the community, and spend time with each other sharing our life and mission.

Even though we are confined to our community, we try to maintain communication with family members and community animators. We give food to the families in need since girls of Maria and boys of Joseph (Projeto Meninas de Maria e Meninos de José) are not there due to Pandemic.

    Lessons in life and solidarity

As an animator of the Nucleus - Caminho Novo, I keep in touch with the communities to know how they are and their needs. We have organized a group with the help of young sisters.  We help the communities in need especially , there are sisters who are at the risk of getting infected. We are very grateful for this promptly assumed solidarity. When a specific need arises, we monitor them as per need.

Quarantining is not easy. However, this experience can teach us many lessons in life and solidarity and sensitivity favour quality of fraternal life among us and with the people. We can learn how important it is to be united.

Sisters, our God is the God of life. Let us entrust Him this quarantine and let us do our part of taking care of ourselves and others. St. Joseph and our Lady of Aparecida, take care of us all.

    Sr. Cecília Berno
