JPIC Brazil - Pausing, Reflecting, Analyzing, Evaluating and Acting in Favor of Life for All

We live in a moment of profound socio-political, economic, religious and cultural changes that challenge each person to take a position and make decisions in order to keep up with this rapid evolution.

In the face of this reality, it is important to ask: are human beings, with regard to the right to life, values, basic needs, respect for nature, the planet and all the dimensions of life that makes up the dynamics of sustainability?  What is the place of respect for creation?  It is believed that the world was created to give the person everything that is necessary to live, with equal rights and duties for everyone, but that\s not what we see happening... What is happening? are we in this context?

In the search to reflect on these issues, a meeting for analysis of the current situation in the country took place on June 22 in Caxias do Sul, in southern Brazil.  The event brought together a group of a hundred people, including Sisters, Associates and Collaborators in the New Way, Holy Family, and St. Joseph nuclei, and Sister Paula Gobbi of the Holy Trinity nucleus. The objective was to study and understand the political, economic, and social environment of Brazil.

The meeting is part of a program developed by the JPIC Group of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Chambéry in Brazil, and it was led by the journalist Elton Bozzetto and Angela Bozzetto, an economist. The same meeting will take place in São Paulo on July 26. The whole province in Brazil will have the opportunity to participate.

For the participants in Caxias, it was a very intense and disturbing, because it is clearly apparent, as seen in specific research data, the country is heading in the face of the decisions that the major leaders are making. It is possible to say that the path is not good, in the face of loss of rights, growth of poverty, unemployment, violence, the enrichment of a few, and disease, among other aspects. This reality involves very different features which are cyclical, sometimes very subtle, confusing people in their social views.

The Sisters of St. Joseph, who have as a mission to defend and promote life in all its dimensions, left the meeting motivated and with their beliefs renewed. At the end of this day, all felt supported and realized the importance of the commitment to not be fooled by false ideologies, but to struggle together and engage in building a fair and possible world for everyone.
