08.02.2020 | General Council meets with Administrators and Principals from India and Brazil

On July 25th and 26th the general council met the leaders from different Associations and Schools of India and Brazil through the Zoom videoconference platform.

In the meeting of 25th July 21 principals from the four Indian provinces were present. In India, most of the Sisters are involved in the Education ministry, therefore it was important to have the interaction with General Council, to be clear on certain matters due to the current scenario in India.

After the initial interaction, the Principals expressed their concerns, difficulties and success in their respective places.

Due to Covid-19, all schools are closed, so Sisters and teachers are constantly involved in preparing online classes and conducting online assessments, which is something new for everyone, but interesting. Some expressed dissatisfaction with the government and its interference in school affairs. They stressed that, as there are no monthly payments, until schools are regularized, it will be difficult to be financially stable.

On 26th July, the meeting with the group from Brazil took place.  In this meeting Sisters who are heads of the schools, the Hospital Nossa Senhora das Oliveiras, the clinics and entities belonging to the Province were present. The provincial council was also present. The aim of this meeting was to reflect, on the challenges, difficulties, new horizons and alternatives to reinvent the mission, mainly in this time of pandemic.

The sharing of the sisters revealed that the mission is being assumed with a lot of responsibility, pursuit for new ways, concern for the care of life and constant adaptation. There is concern about the future of the works and post pandemic effect on life. However, there is a lot of hope. “There are signs of growth in the search for “more”, from discomfort to a daily reinventing of life. We envision a new way of doing things,” said Sr. Maria Inês Coelho from São Paulo.

Sr. Ieda highlighted the importance of integrated work between the groups. She said: “you are a group, who are involved in different mission, an entity that builds, in a way, the province. You can share and learn from each other.  Different Schools and Health Care centres may have different initiatives that can be complementary. Look for a way to integrate schools, Hospital and clinics at the provincial level”.

Sr. Sally and her council appreciated the innovative methods used by the Sisters in the different Associations and Schools.
