    05.07.2020 | Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic: Tanmaya India Sharing 22

    We continue to care…

    As the lockdown continues in India, the cry of the poor and the needy intensifies. People are suffering in various ways.  Day by day, we come in touch with migrants, daily wage labourers, rag pickers, sweepers, etc., and we continue to care for them.


    Pushpa Kalyan Hospital, Ashta

    The hospital staff and the sisters unanimously decided to contribute their two days salary to purchase dry food items for the needy who are struggling due to lockdown. From this collection, they were able to distribute care packages to the 125 families of rag pickers and sweepers of Indira Colony, Ashta.


    St. Joseph’s Convent, Deoli, Khandwa and Villupuram

    In honour of St. Joseph the worker, Sisters of St. Joseph from Deoli, Khandwa, and Villupuram communities, took the initiative to help the poor and the needy.  

    Deoli community distributed 35 care packages to the neediest people of the village. Since the villagers are simple and illiterate, sisters conducted various awareness programmes about coronavirus and its symptoms. They also explained to them in detail on social distancing and taking care of themselves.

    Khandwa community provided care packages to 117 families who were struggling for food due to lockdown.

    In Villupuram, sisters of St. Joseph, identified 30 families of daily wage labourers in Vikravandi village and supported them by providing care packages.     


    ICJ Tanmaya, Bhopal

    Catholic Religious India (CRI) – Bhopal Unit, along with Archbishop of Bhopal extended their helping hand to the Health Minister of Madhya Pradesh in the survey to detect the infected cases at different locations. Though 45 members initially volunteered only 16 of them were able to take up this task as the salvation kit could be used by those who wore suits or pants. Among the sixteen 5 sisters were from ICJ  - and Tanmaya. Their main work was to visit the remote areas of Bhopal to do the survey. Sr. Rani along with the others conducted the survey for three days in order to detect the infected cases.


    St. Joseph’s Convent, Bathalapalli

    In collaboration with Rural Development Trust (RDT), the sisters of St Joseph at Bathalapalli engaged in caring for HIV patients. These patients live in 65 different areas. They are on constant medication and due to lockdown, they could not approach the center to collect the medicines. Sisters along with RDT staff, decided to pack each patient\´s medicine as per the prescription and made arrangements to reach them to their homes. 

    Sisters and staff in their free time engaged in stitching masks. Their target was to stick one lakh masks and distribute them to the patients and people around.

    Right now. Sr. Sangeeta and the other RDT staff is engaged in serving corona Patients at Anantapur District Hospital.
