04.19.2020 | Sisters of St. Joseph facing coronavirus pandemic: Hospital Nossa Senhora da Oliveira / Vacaria - Sharing 17

Each era has their stories, problems and consequences and no one can escape this, because we are actors on the stage of life.

Nossa Senhora da Oliveira Hospital, which belongs to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery, in Vacaria RS, is engaged in the preparation of the structure and training of the teams so that Covid-19 patients can be treated as best as possible and return healthy to their home.

At the moment, two Sisters continue to work in the hospital.  Sr. Andrea Dalaqua Goulart works as coordinator of the Nursing team and helps in training the team. Along with the infectious disease specialist she attends to the patients according to the rules of Health Surveillance.

Sister Adelide works in administrative team, organizing the structure, materials and equipment. A wing of the hospital was completely isolated to receive covid-19 patients. A team of doctors, nurses, nutritionist, sanitizers, maintenance personels and physiotherapists were trained and prepared to attend this wing.

The person of faith has a much better chance of healing

A new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of eight beds, with all the necessary equipment will be set up to treat covid-19 patients.

The supply team runs out of time to buy supplies, materials, medicines, kit and PPE - (Personal Protective Equipment). They encounter many difficulties because materials are not available in the market and the cost is high because middlemen take advantage of the situation and sell the materials at higher price.

The Hospital only offers essential health services, ensuring that everyone can work safely. Workers who are part of the risk group have been removed. Religious services are done at a distance.

Sr. Adelide does extensive work on social media, to spread the Word, so that the population, especially the risk group, remains at home and respects the procedures and safety rules. She also invites people to grow in Faith, strengthen their hope which are fundamental factors for the healing of the body and mind. The person of faith has a much better chance of healing. Sr. Adelide invites all people to pray together, regardless of religious creed.

We do our best so that not even one sector is left unattended and unprotected.

It is a time of great insecurity, uncertainty and doubts. We do not know the outcome of this Pandemic. We work with the desire to serve the entire infected population, without forgetting that our hospital serves nine municipalities and is responsible for one hundred and ten thousand lives.

Sisters Andrea and Adelide at this critical moment, represent the Congregation here in Vacaria RS.  They are doing their best to attend and protect all the sectors. With great faith, they dedicate their day to intense work, to save lives. They are a light that illuminates the other hospital workers, showing that despair and panic kill, faith and trust in God, make sure that better days are coming.
