04.13.2020 | Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic: Norway and the Novitiate Community in Vacaria (Brazil) - Sharing 13

     Norway

Here in Norway, all the Sisters are in the convent. We have no visitors, but we have many elderly Sisters to look after. I was quarantined because of my recent visit to France. Now I\´m back with the Sisters. At this pandemic time, we have longer period of prayers and support one another.

We keep supporting people through email and over the phone. We are privileged to participate in daily mass because of a priest who resides in our building.  Our young Sisters work in an infirmary, so they are living by themselves at this time. We pray for people, for our countries and for the world and we try to support each other.

    Novitiate - Vacaria / RS

As a formative community, in this time of “Quarantine”, we try to be attuned to this global reality, in solidarity with the whole world, whose cries we can listen through the various news channels.

Our reflection is leading us to organize a special schedule, so that we can live our Charism of Communion in a deeper and more concrete way.  We try to accompany the present situation and follow the guidelines of the Congregation, the Church, the CRB and the local Church.

Our days are divided between personal and community prayer, prayer of the Rosary, the Way of the Cross and adoration of the Holy Sacrament. We follow daily mass and other religious programs on TV. In addition, we watch films that are part of the content proposed by the Novitiate: in particular, Josephology. We dedicate our time on Study on Lenten Time, dynamics, crafts, community work, care for the house and garden.

The sisters go out for the shopping and we try to be in touch with our neighbours from a distance. We make phone calls to our families, friends and LLPP and try to give a word of hope, reassurance and encouragement.

During this time, one of the Sisters maintains contact via Zoom with a group of “New Generation Religious”, making meditations and sharing life, which also enriches our community. We became strongly united when we watched together a program called “Collegamento” by the Focolares Movement. In the program, people from all over the world were connected, sharing experiences of this pandemic phase. It was really beautiful to watch. We pray for the world and  this gives us an opportunity to reflect on the world.

We wish that this time may be a time of reflection on life, uniting our hearts to God and to all people. In the hope and certainty that the Risen God walks with us.
