04.10.2020 | Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic: Region of Bolivia Sharing 11

     Bolivia in time of pandemic

The biggest change in our daily routine is undoubtedly being at home. It is a providential intervention that made the dream of a more pleasant life possible. Being together, strengthening relationships, rebuilding ourselves physically and qualifying our time of prayer, meeting with ourselves and the Lord. It is a valuable time that allows us to deal with different things such as making crafts, gardens, libraries, updating documents, reading, studying, sharing life, etc.

We live in a time of planetary connection that keeps us involved in such a way that we do not see time passing by and commits us to simple gestures of solidarity. We took advantage of this time to maintain a communication of solidarity with the Congregation, the region, communities, families and friends over the  phone. This is the only means at our disposal to communicate words of hope and support.

Some communities participate in the Eucharist, the rosary, follow the Pope\´s Mass and other moments of spirituality through social networks. Some Sisters also participate in masses in parishes that are broadcast live on Facebook.

We bring in prayer all the suffering humanity affected by the Pandemic.

During this time of Holy Week, communities organize themselves to live liturgical moments in their homes. As far as possible and also in collaboration with the parish priests, the use of social networks at the service of faith, is helping the people to live this situation with serenity. Every day at 6 pm, we from the four communities in the Region, we pray by video call. It is a new and very significant experience. We bring in prayer all the suffering humanity affected by the Pandemic. We pray for those in the service of health, the military and the volunteers who devote their time to care for vulnerable people.

Some communities had to close the doors of their homes and open their hearts to help the poorest brothers, collecting food and distributing it to the neediest families with the collaboration of the associates. It is not possible to cross your arms, there are brothers and sisters who are hungry because they cannot go out to work.

We all have to submit to the instructions given by the government that declared total quarantine.  We have to do so because our country, Bolivia, has no structure in the health sector to face a Pandemic of this magnitude. We continue to pray that Our God will have pity on His created humanity!
