04.04.2020 | Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic: Nursing Home - São Paulo / Brazil. Sharing 8

Taboão da Serra - Sao Paulo

Our Community comprises of 29 Sisters, who are all above 60 years of age. We have sisters above 100 years of age. There are also have nine lay ladies living with us.

We are living the Covid 19 Pandemic situation trying to strictly comply with the instructions given by the authorities of the Ministry of Health and the Secretariat of Health.  Taking into consideration that we are all at risk, and we are no longer in a position to assume certain functions, our collaborators are working, because we need the care of nurses and caregivers.

We are intensifying our prayers and we all attend the mass on TV Aparecida. We enhance our knowledge about the present situation through the media and try to show solidarity with those who are in the most serious situations, especially the poorest.

We had the opportunity to help a lady in dire need by giving her some financial support. Whenever we are asked to help people in difficulty, some Sisters make donations from their personal allowance and this attitude of solidarity is always very generous.

Our common activities continue and the physiotherapist and gerontologist are at home to avoid contacts during this period. The government of São Paulo has a team of doctors, specialists and people in research, trying to help in fight against this epidemic.

We regret the view of our President who appears to be in an opinion contrary to what the authorities are telling us.
