04.04.2020 | Sisters of St. Joseph facing the Coronavirus Pandemic: General Council and Sweden - Sharing 5

How the General Council is dealing with Covid-19

Sisters Sally, Philomena, Mariaelena and Ieda, needed to reorganize their activities based on the security measures proposed by the Italian authorities. Scheduled trips have been cancelled. At home, we divide the time between prayer, council and household activities, cleaning the house, cooking, going to the market, etc. Unable to attend Mass, we attend the mass the one presided over by Pope Francis and broadcast on TV 2000.

We use Zoom primarily for meetings with the coordinators of the Provinces, Regions and Missions, and International Commissions. In the impossibility of travelling, Sister Sally also participated in the Provincial Chapter of Denmark via Zoom. The closeness to the Casaletto Sisters is a blessing for us, because in need we run to them. With them we celebrated St. Joseph\´s Day, of course observing the established rules.

We also participated in significant moments of prayer, via Skype, all the Sisters of the eight communities in the Italian Province were connected. Our secretary, Rossella and our archivist, Daniella, work from their homes. We communicate with them by phone. And

This time of seclusion has brought many inconveniences in the sense of cancelling trips for activities already planned, among other things, but it makes us realize the wealth of initiatives regarding care for what is really important in life: faith, solidarity, walking together, respect and mutual help.

    Sweden

At the request of the government and the bishop cobsidering our age,  the two of us have been at home for three weeks now. Thank God we\´re fine. During these time, in addition to prayers, we continue contacting the sick, elderly and depressed people who live alone over the phone.

As the Swedish course for immigrants is closed, we send distance courses with the help of local Caritas employees. This is all we can do for now. Thankfully, none of our family members or acquaintances have been affected by the coronavirus. We remain united in thanksgiving and prayer.

    Hugs from Beatriz and Lila
