    03.06.2020 | A Sister of St. Joseph receives

    Every year, city councillors honour women from the city of Ponta Porã, in Mato Grosso do Sul, located on the border of Paraguay who are considered outstanding in the development of the municipality. The award is always given on days close to the International Women\´s Day; March 8. In 2020 councillor Paulinho Roberto of the Workers\´ Party named Sr. Maurília Carra.


    Joy and welcome

    S. Maurília has been working for
     10 years in the Itamaraty Settlement, which belongs to the municipality of Ponta Porã. She lives in community with Sisters Olga Manosso and Neusabete Santana Freitas.  Sr. Maurília stands out in the work developed by Pastoral Health. Her dedication and love in caring for sick is remarkable for which she received the award on March 3. Among many of her characteristics joy and welcome are noteworthy. This is evident in the way she attends each one who come to her seeking some alternative and herbal treatment. Her teas and ointments are famous in the community.

    The “International Woman” award is given to those in a border region.


    "The woman\´s place is she wants to be"

    During the formal session, one of the councillors stressed that the current situation requires different demeanour towards the role played by women in society. She said that “the woman\´s place and she wants to be needs respect, loving care and tolerance. "

    In addition to Sr. Maurília, other women from different walks of life were honoured. Among them were doctors, police, vaccinators, religious leaders, housewives, artists, public servants and entrepreneurial professionals due to which the Town Hall was packed.
