02.16.2020 | VII Seminar of the Congregation of Saint Joseph of Latin America and the Caribbean

Seminar rescues the theme of prophecy in Latin America and the Caribbean

With the wealth of presentations and diversity of projects of the Sisters of St. Joseph, the VII Seminar of the Congregation of St. Joseph in Latin America and the Caribbean took place from February 3 to 12, in Itú / SP. and the theme was “Dynamism and Prophecy". The event brought together 102 participants from fifteen congregations and eleven countries. The Seminar facilitated the cultivation of communication that connects spirits, emotions, desires and passions. The event was promoted by the Network of Latin America and the Caribbean, which supports and encourages the communion of social workers who work in the continent and are in a permanent communion with the dreams and ideals of the Network of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Clothing, flags, paintings and symbols presented at the opening ceremony expressed the cultural and historical traits of different nations and peoples the sisters work. The Network of Latin America and the Caribbean is not an institution, but a dynamism that integrates the congregations and enriches the experiences of action driven by the charism of unity in diversity, in the different contexts of the peoples of the continent, said the Resource Person Sr. Griselda Morales. The symbol of the network brought the participants together in a dance for life and a commitment to the ideals experienced four centuries ago by the followers of Fr. Medaille.

The Provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery, Sr. Kátia Sassi, welcomed the participants saying that the Sisters and associates of the Congregations of St. Joseph have a 370-year history. “Time sets us in motion in the face of the changes taking place in the Church and in society. The charism of unity needs to be radiated, communicated and prophesied in the diverse realities of the continent, especially in the face of increasing social inequality, a threat to human rights, xenophobic behaviour, racist attitudes, authoritarianism, degradation of democracy and climate change”.

Elizabeth Rangel greeted the participants on behalf of the Network of Latin America and the Caribbean. “The theme of this seminar provokes reflection and action. It is necessary to affirm that we are the hope, because the Gospel is the good news for the discarded peoples, as Pope Francis says”. She reiterated that with the humble ones we will make history together. “The God who loves us invites us to build justice for all, especially those excluded, and to be prophetic and a word of hope”.
