11.19.2019 | Sisters of St. Joseph from France to Brazil! A Mission without Borders being repeated today...

It was November 16, 1898. The young French Sisters woke up early. All were there to say goodbye to the missionaries who would soon go to the port and leave for their new mission in Brazil.

There have been 121 years of mission, of struggles, sacrifices, faith, prayer, love, encounters, travel, stories, and, above all, total surrender to the Lord.   How many seeds were planted in Brazil, and how many people involved in this mission!

What was our big event in Brazil? From October 20 to November 3, 2019, we would have the great joy of welcoming 14 missionary pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Chambéry, who came from France to make the same journey the French Sisters made. Some Sisters’ family members of the third and fourth generations wanted to know and experience the mission of these Sisters who came to Brazil never to return.

The São José Nucleus had the joy of welcoming them on October 27 and 28. It was our pleasure! We have no words that explain how we felt! Imagine us and the people representing the community that in the past welcomed the Sisters. Today we receive them; recounting and showing these pilgrims and relatives what these young missionary Sisters did in Brazilian lands.

In Porto Alegre, Garibaldi and Caxias do Sul

When they came to Porto Alegre, Sr. Ivani Gandini said,
Much touched us in the group\´s meeting with the Sisters, each spoke about what they do and how they live. They spoke to us of their involvement in Church and social actions. We were all impressed by the simplicity, openness, dedication, understanding, friendship and gratitude they expressed for all. "

In Garibaldi it was no different. Sr. Eulalia Antoniazzi says they have shown admiration for the way the memory of the Sisters from France has been preserved. This could be clearly perceived on the occasion of the guided tour of the Sisters of St Joseph Memorial. They wanted to see everything and listen to all the explanations. They also participated in a celebration of the Word at the tomb of Mother Justina Inês. After the prayer, the French were able to hear the witness of two people who attained grace through the intercession of Mother Justina Agnes. It was exciting. After a simple socializing and thanks, the group left. We keep beautiful memories of everyone. We make a commitment to remember them in our prayers, Sister concluded.

In Caxias do Sul,  "We can say that these people from France were a joyful and positive presence. They brought us a part of the root of the Congregation, looking to the future with the prospect of an exchange to keep alive the relationship of communion. The group went through our school, taking in everything they could and assimilating every conversation, every experience, and registering each moment with teachers and staff." Jorge Godoy, Deputy Director of the Colégio São José, said. “Thank you very much, Sister Dominga Zolet, for the brilliant and inspiring idea of this trip! Thank you to both priests and every missionary pilgrim! May this exchange, sharing and coexistence be repeated.”
