    01.18.2019 | Sr. Olga Manosso

Sister Olga Manosso is a native of São Marcos in southern Brazil. She was born January 5, 1948. As a farmer’s daughter, she always cultivated a love for the Earth. After years of religious training and academic studies, she asked the Congregation to work in Mato Grosso do Sul. With a degree in social studies and history and with a graduate degree in education, she has always served as a public school teacher and retired in this capacity.

In 1975, after her final profession, she helped organize the Pastoral Land Commission which is, until today, a strong support in the struggle of the people for the acquisition of land. In 2003 and 2004, she worked in the Family Agricultural School and in 2005, together with Sister Ignes Novello, founded the community in the Itamaraty Settlement. She remained connected to education in the field and always supported the Landless in their "struggle for land and on the land". She contributed to the organization of the rural women’s movement in Mato Grosso do Sul and continues working with these groups. Her devotion to social causes has earned her several awards, among them:

1996 – The Marshall Guarani Prize (given to people who excel in working for the cause of the indigenous in the municipality of Dourados or in Mato Grosso do Sul)
1999 – Citizen of the Glory of Dourados
2008 – Ricardo Brandão medal (given by the State of Mato Grosso do Sul to persons or entities fighting in defense of human rights)
2012 – Culture of Peace Award
2016 – Citizen of Mato Grosso do Sul.

In 2019, upon completing 50 years of consecrated life and 71 years of life, she celebrated her years of devoted generous service and struggle for the people and for justice and dignity for all with her family, Sisters of St. Joseph, friends and communities. Her motto is, "I came so that all may have life and life in abundance”.
