12.23.2018 | Nursing Homes have a meeting on line

The tools offered by the internet and virtual systems can be very useful for our interpersonal relationships.  An example of this was the meeting that took place between two nursing homes on December 18. The Nazareth community of Caxias do Sul and Patrocinio in Vacaria had a special afternoon arranged by Sisters Adelide Cansi and Eliana Aparecida dos Santos.  The two communities met through videoconferencing using the Zoom system. Each Sister was invited to come forward and talk a little bit about herself. They showed the crafts they make and their artistic skills in painting. Many Sisters who hadn\´t seen each other for years recognized each other. Because they are in nursing homes, with some limitations due to age or health, most cannot go out to meetings or visits.

This meeting was a way to bridge distances and provide the Sisters a time for catching up. They saw and felt included in the virtual world. Nothing replaces personal encounters, the warmth, and the friendly hug. However, when this is not possible, the virtual meeting place is the only way to renew connections. That\´s what happened at this meeting. A mixture of joy, nostalgia, fond memories, and emotion involved the two communities. This was the first such gathering.  Other encounters will be promoted, like moments of sharing, prayer and recreation. The experience was very positive, and the Sisters want to continue meeting.
