10.15.2018 | 368th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation

    October 15, 2018

Dear Sisters, Associates, and Friends of the Little Design,

In this 368th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation, our hearts sing a hymn of praise and thanksgiving to our God as we recall the many blessings we have received. Every year October 15th offers us an opportunity to deepen our lived experience of our charism. It is a time to renew our enthusiasm for the mission and to strengthen the bonds of our family in different locations of the world. "Recalling" in the ecclesial experience is never simply "remembering" facts and events of the past, but rather putting them into practice in today’s reality. In this context, those facts and events that occurred at the origin of a story become a sign of the Spirit\´s action and an invitation to open new paths. This year our anniversary falls within the time of the Synod on Youth, called by Pope Francis, as a time to listen to the youth offering them respect, loving attention and accompaniment from the Church.

This event of the Spirit providentially involves our Congregation personally by Sister Sally’s presence, and through the efforts of our many sisters and lay partners who live the “little design” each day as they accompany youth in their integral development. It is a moment to consider deepening our commitment to accompany youth spiritually and to share with new generations the story of our beginnings in which young women were protagonists and co-creators with Father Jean Pierre Médaille.

We hear the call to let ourselves be infected by the enthusiasm and idealism of young people, paying attention to their voice, inside and outside of the Congregation and the Church, to involve them in apostolic action, perhaps with more responsibility and offering more room for their creativity and newness of life. But we are also challenged to witness with them and for them unity and reconciliation, in a social and cultural context today, that at times, is more unstable, intolerant and full of conflicts than before.

We commend each of you to the loving intercession of Father Médaille and our founding sisters, asking them to help us keep alive the joy of our vocation and passion for the mission. May we witness to new generations a presence that is “more authentic" "more relational" and "more committed to justice" (Instrumentum Laboris Synod on Youth), living a life according to the “little design”.

May God bless all of us and those who join us in joyful thanksgiving to God for this day of Foundation.

Happy Feast to all of you!
With affection and gratitude for you,

    Sr. Sally Hodgdon
    Sr. Mariaelena Aceti
    Sr. Ieda Tomazini
    Sr. Philo Pazhuruparambil
